How to Remove the Author From Slack Sharing Preview in Rank Math

Table of Contents

Learn how to remove author names from Slack sharing previews in Rank Math and keep your WordPress page shares clean and professional.

When sharing a page on Slack, you may notice additional metadata appearing in the preview that you would rather hide.

Typically, this includes:

  • Estimated reading time
  • “Written by” author information

The author field can become problematic, especially on company websites, because it often displays the name of the developer or administrator instead of the brand itself.

While this information can be useful for blog posts or specific custom post types, it usually does not make sense for standard website pages.

Rank Math Solution

If you are using Rank Math, this is the cleanest and most professional solution.

Navigate to:

Rank Math SEO → Titles & Meta → Pages → Slack Enhanced Sharing

Then disable: Slack Enhanced Sharing

This option is enabled by default in Rank Math.

Why This Happens

There is a bit of confusion around this feature in Rank Math.

For Pages, the plugin documentation suggests Slack Enhanced Sharing mainly affects the estimated reading time.

However, for Posts, the feature clearly includes additional author metadata.

Technically, WordPress pages are still stored internally as a type of post (post_type = page), so Slack previews may still inherit author-related metadata in certain situations.

Because of this, you may still see Written by John Doe even on standard pages.

Simple workaround

If you do not want to disable Slack Enhanced Sharing completely, there is a simple workaround.

In your WordPress profile settings:

  1. Set your Nickname to your company or website name
  2. Change Display name publicly as to that nickname

For example:

Nickname: Webgate
Display name publicly as: Webgate

This changes the Slack preview from:

Written by John Developer

to:

Written by Webgate

which looks much more professional for business websites.
